A Sports Biopic Exploring the Life and Career of Mark Kerr
In The Smashing Machine, Johnson Plays Kerr, the Legendary MMA Fighter from the No-Holds-Barred Era of UFC
Dwayne Johnson is reminding fans of his original The Rock title for his indie moment. As for The Smashing Machine, with A24 kicking off production recently, the first image has now dropped. The film, which marks a Jungle Cruise reunion for Johnson and Emily Blunt, is a sports biopic exploring the life and career of Mark Kerr, the legendary MMA fighter from the no-holds-barred era of UFC.
The pic will follow Kerr's struggle with addiction and mental illness, as well as his triumphant return to the sport. Safdie, who co-directed Uncut Gems with his brother Josh, is directing from a script by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood).
The Smashing Machine is set for release on May 21, 2024.
